Ceremony Year (2002)

Movies Came Out In (2001)

Winner:

A Beautiful Mind – A classic.  Great acting all around in a true story about a brilliant mathematician John Nash and his struggles to cope with reality.

Gosford Park – I did not find this movie interesting in the least.  It was neat to see several Downton Abbey actors in a similar role way before the tv series, but other than that, I wasn’t impressed with this flick. The plot revolves around 1930’s English servants, house guests, and residents involvement in a murder.

In the Bedroom – This movie was moving.  I actually didn’t quite see (expect) the twists coming and they made the movie pretty interesting.  I liked it. I don’t want to give too much away but the plot involves an older couple’s son getting mixed up with a much older women who has a jealous ex-husband.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – Did not enjoy on first viewing in the theater, but after several viewings have come to appreciate. This is the first episode in the trilogy involving Sam, Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, etc… and the quest to destroy an evil ring.

Moulin Rouge! – Ok, this was an interesting “musical”.  I have watched the original (1952), and I had never seen this remake before now.  I wasn’t expecting to see a film set in 1904 Paris to have modern music like Elton John, Madonna, and Nirvana (as examples).  It was sort of cool.  The story was “ok”.  The signing/acting was decent.  I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.  It was totally watchable, in my opinion.
