Ceremony Year (1992)

Movies Came Out In (1991)

Winner:

The Silence of the Lambs – An absolute thriller.  Holds up over time, still as nerve wracking today to watch as back then.  Love it. Jodie Foster plays an FBI agent tracking down a serial killer with the help of Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins), an imprisoned psychopathic genius killer.

Beauty and the Beast – I think every dad of a little girl has seen this (at least once).  A classic Disney movie for sure, as a prince spends out his days as a beast until he tries to regain his humanity with the help of a woman.

Bugsy – Never originally saw this, just watched it recently.  Wow, what a bad movie.  I found it completely corny in the acting and somewhat stupid.  Considering it’s based on true events, and when I read Bugsy’s wikipedia, it seems like most of the movie was out of order or incomplete.  But I really found the acting off putting from basically every character.

JFK – Did not like, way too long, not extremely interesting. I saw as a teenager and recently rewatched, as a lawyer investigates JFK’s murder and discovers there’s more than what’s been officially released. I still have a problem with the length (over 3 hours), it could be shortened so easily.

The Prince of Tides – Never saw this movie originally, just watched it recently.  I thought I was going to hate it, just based on judging a book by its cover and what people have told me in the past.  But I have to admit, I kind of liked it.  And now I understand a Simpsons reference of Marge whispering “Lowenstein” several times in an episode, so super bonus for me. A man falls in love with his psychiatrist is the basic plot.

Brian’s Winner:

The Silence of the Lambs – No contest.
